is measuring 5 3/4 inches and cris crossing the wires down the middle really that important?
won’t a jumble of coat hangers work just as well?

I built this antenna out of pure curiosity and so far it works better than my Winegard SS-3000 indoor antenna. I didn’t change anything about their instructions and I admit I’m surprised and impressed.
I can’t say for sure what material the coat hangers are made out of but they’re working quite well for me.

Have you ever seen an aluminum coat hanger? It is made of steel. D’oh!

Yes, the reflector works; I don’t have to turn the antenna as much as before.

I built this last night and I am amazed at how well it works. I called all of my friends screaming about my new HDTV antenna. I had trouble finding wire hangers, but I eneded up buying some from a local dry cleaner. The wood I found on the sidewalk, so this thing only ended up costing under $10. The most expensive piece was the balun (from Radio Shack). Do yourself a favor and build this if you want to save a lot of money.

Can you let me know if the reflector works?

It mostly works. I bought a roll of wire so I didn’t have strip coat hangers. CBS will not come in although maybe it will after the June when we rescan the channels. CBS has some great shows but it’s not the end of the world.

Obviously something was lost in translation.
If you don’t switch to digital you’re fucked. Have fun watching static.

Works great-
Hey, costs pennies to make and is super easy-
give it a try!

It might be a VHF signal… IIRC this antenna is ONLY able to receive UHF.

If this antenna does not work for you, you did not build it correctly or there is no signal in your area. That is the bottom line here. Plain and simple logic.

I live in Denver and built this antenna last night. I followed the instructions as closely as I could, NOT being terribly “mechanically inclined.” It works GREAT! (I DID insulate the 2 spots where the long wires cross each other.) It IS a tad directional. IN some positions, I get the 3 channel 12s better than I ever have, but…do not get the 4 channel 59s. At another orientation, I get the 59s great, but not the 12. BUT…for the VAST majority of the channels it is super! I am very pleased!

i just built one it works awesome in the attic i have it split 3 ways and get 40 channels so far without aming it
but it did not work well on ground level

it’s more like the digital law then the HD law. If you’re staying with the analog (not talking about SD/standard tv), well you might end up receiving absolutely nothing.

Was skeptical @ first , then built it using smaller gauge wire.
didn’t work ok in doors , but worked great with antenna outside
believe it or not

Do NOT waste your time.
I made this exactly to the vid’s specs and it did NOT work for me. My plastic philips antenna works better than this thing.

is this antenna dtv capable?
By NARPASSWORD007 on Oct 12, 2009 | Reply
Why switch? I know I won’t switch. The HD law is the most worthless law and is not something I will follow(because I do not apply as any of the law’s subjects, being the stations).
